FALL CLASSES

'Traveling with Tangles' at Kamala Art and Soul
The 'Traveling with Tangles' program at Kamala, taught by Certified Zentangle Teacher Sarah Del Mastro (The Traveling Tangler) introduces students to traditional Zentangle skills and encourages exploration of a variety of ways to go beyond traditional Zentangle to create Zentangle Inspired Art and seasonal projects. Demo pens are available for use in class. Zentangle kits and other resources are available for purchase. See class descriptions below and come join us for the journey!
Sundays twice a month, 1-3pm
$25 per class 

September 13th - New Beginnings
Begin (or re-commit to) your Zentangle journey at this beginners workshop. Perfect for beginners with no experience, but also great for experienced tanglers who want to return to the simplicity and magic of a first tile. Learn the history, philosophy and the basic steps of Zentangle. Apply these steps and practice some beginner tangles. Breathe, relax and enjoy the process, while creating your own original artwork to take home.

September 27th - Secret Garden Peek-A-Boo Cards
Create your very own secret garden. During this class we will explore plant like tangles on a tile using traditional Zentangle method and will then mount them inside a peek-a-boo card and use our tangles to create a Zentangle inspired card and envelope. This class includes two original tangles created by Sarah: Furlz and Aysis. Students must have previously attended a Zentangle Beginners Workshop.



October 11th - Warming up with Earth Tones (Tan/Renaissance tiles)
This class expands upon basic Zentangle method by introducing the use of a brown pen and other tools to explore techniques for highlighting and shading on midtone papers. Students must have previously attended a Beginner workshop.

October 25th - Wonderful Watercolors (Beginners welcome)
Create a beautiful piece of Zentangle inspired fall themed art. Mount it as a card or frame it for your wall or mantelpiece. Also makes a great gift! No prior Zentangle experience necessary for this class. The emphasis is on the techniques for creating the watercolor background and working with fall themed templates. Basic Zentangle philosophy and some simple tangles will be taught; experienced tanglers can use their favorites! Sarah will also teach her own original tangle, 'Ryan'.


November 1st- Coloring inside the lines with Kate!

Coloring books are big!! Studies are finding that coloring provides amazing relaxing benefits too.  So, now that you have your coloring books, what it the best technique? 
Well, there is no RIGHT way to do it.  But there is Kate's favorite way! 
Prisma Premier Pencils
Join Kate between 1-3pm on this first Sunday afternoon in November for some technique in how to use colored pencils.  We will learn blending colors so that your finished piece is velvety and rich.
Kate will have her Prisma Premier pencils on hand for class use, and will provide a printed coloring page from a published book. 

 Purchase of pencils is possible, but not required.

November 8th - Beautiful Bijou (Grid tangles, beginners welcome)

'Bijou' is a french word which means 'little jewel'. This class introduces Zentangle's beautiful 'Bijou' tiles. Smaller than the traditional Zentangle tiles, Bijou tiles make great miniature masterpieces which can be enjoyed individually or combined in lots of fun ways. They also make great gift tags. In this class we will use these delightful tiles to explore a variety of grid based tangles and 3D grid effects.

November 22nd - Fabulous Frames (Beginners welcome)
Join us at Kamala the Sunday before Thanksgiving to learn techniques and tangles for creating beautiful borders as frames for photos or artwork. Great for gifts, cards and gift tags, and to design your own unique place cards for your Thanksgiving table. 





December 6th - 'Star Within a Star' 3D paper ornaments (Beginners Welcome)

3D stars make wonderful seasonal ornaments for walls, windows, trees, tables. This class will teach you how to make a standard 3D star and the 'star-within-a-star' formation shown below. No prior Zentangle experience necessary for this class. The emphasis is on the origami techniques for creating different star variations. Basic Zentangle philosophy and some simple tangles will be taught; experienced tanglers can use their favorites! Sarah will also teach her own original tangle, 'Kamalastah'.


December 20th - All Boxed Up (Origami and other boxes)
Shop at Kamala Art &Soul or Kamala Boutique for any last minute gifts and then come to class to get them all boxed up. This class will teach you how to fold a square piece of paper into a box; no glue, no scissors! The bigger the paper, the bigger the box! Boxes can be used plain or decorated with tangles or decorated in any other way you choose. No prior Zentangle experience necessary for this class. The emphasis is on the origami techniques for creating these boxes. Basic Zentangle philosophy and some simple seasonal themed tangles will be taught (photos below are from our summer/ocean themed class!); experienced tanglers can use their favorites!


Tangled Studio Time

$15, 1.5 hour each
An informal drop in class to provide support and camaraderie on your Zentangle journey. Each week will have a suggested tangle, project, theme or technique. Ask questions, explore new ideas or join us just to soak up the relaxed and creative atmosphere at Kate's studio.
